Dual Fusion Set Guide: Best Cards, New Decks & Which Pack to Open

Hola Everyone! It’s your boy Anketsu here, and you know what else is here? The new Pokémon Pocket set, Dual Fusion (C1)!

This expansion kicks off the new C Series and the game’s third year, with 217 new cards and the introduction of Dual-Type Pokémon.

These new cards could change the game as we know it. They can exploit the weaknesses of two different types while also benefiting from Support cards belonging to either type. That’s a pretty scary advantage…

Dual Fusion is also split into two packs, something we haven’t seen in a while: Mega Mewtwo X and Pikachu.

“But Anketsu, why Mewtwo and Pikachu?”

Honestly, no idea, guys.

Maybe someone rolled a dice in the office and called it a day. They could have gone with Mega Mewtwo ex and Mega Greninja ex instead, putting the two new Dual-Type Pokémon in the spotlight. But apparently, Pikachu had other plans.

Jokes aside, there’s plenty to look forward to, along with a few pros and cons to weigh up.

In this guide, I’ll take a closer look at the cards worth chasing, the ones that could have the biggest impact on the meta, and some of the best artwork to add to your collection. I’ll also share a few decks worth trying during the first days of Dual Fusion, while everyone’s experimenting and the meta is still wide open.

Now grab a seat, relax, and enjoy the post!

Is Dual Fusion Worth Opening?

mega tyranitar ex

If there’s one thing that makes Dual Fusion stand out, it’s the introduction of Dual-Type Pokémon. We’ve already had a small taste of this mechanic in the past with Urshifu, but this time things are getting serious.

Dual-Type Pokémon challenge one of the most reliable mechanics in Pokémon Pocket: type weaknesses.

Take Mega Mewtwo X, for example. Being both Fighting and Psychic-type means it can deal increased damage to Pokémon belonging to either type’s weakness matchups.

In other words, it has the potential to hit a much wider range of opponents where it hurts the most. Back in the early days of Pocket, getting matched against a Water-type deck while playing Fire was often enough to make you feel like the match was already over.

Now imagine facing a card that can exploit two different weaknesses. That’s a whole new headache for your opponent!

There’s one important detail to keep in mind, though: Dual-Type Pokémon still have only one weakness of their own.

Mega Mewtwo X, for instance, takes an extra 20 damage from Darkness-type Pokémon, rather than being weak to two different types. So while these cards can exploit more weaknesses, they don’t automatically suffer from twice as many themselves.

That’s a pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

And honestly, I think Dual Fusion is an absolute powerhouse from a competitive standpoint. This set could lay the groundwork for the decks and strategies we’ll be playing throughout 2027.

We’ve seen something similar with previous block launches, where cards from the first couple of expansions ended up shaping the following competitive era and remained relevant for a long time.

There’s every reason to believe that the new Dual-Type Pokémon and their supporting cards could have a similar impact.

That also means even veteran players with an extensive collection can’t afford to sit this one out. New support cards could breathe life into existing archetypes, while the Dual-Type Pokémon open up entirely new possibilities.

If you want to keep up with the evolving meta, you’ll definitely want to take a closer look at what Dual Fusion has to offer.

The good news is that this expansion has something for pretty much everyone. If you’re a free-to-play player who’s just getting started, it gives you a solid opportunity to build your collection around a fresh batch of cards.

Collectors have plenty of new artwork to chase, while competitive players get a new set of tools to experiment with and potentially reshape their decks.

Overall, Dual Fusion is much more than I initially expected. Its changes feel substantial rather than cosmetic, and the introduction of Dual-Type Pokémon gives the game a fresh strategic angle to explore.

Pokémon Pocket has a real opportunity to recapture some of the excitement and momentum it had around its original launch. Whether the set will live up to that promise remains to be seen, but the foundations are certainly there.

Which Cards Are Worth Chasing?

mega greninja ex

If you’re wondering which cards deserve your attention in Dual Fusion, I’d start with the obvious candidates: the new Dual-Type Pokémon.

They’re the main attraction of this expansion, and some of them have the potential to become major players in the competitive scene. However, don’t overlook the more generic Support cards, either.

Cards that can fit into several different archetypes are often just as valuable as the flashy new Pokémon, especially if you’re trying to improve a collection you’ve been building for months.

Among the cards that immediately caught my eye, Mega Mewtwo X ex and Mega Greninja ex stand out as two of the most exciting additions.

Both represent what makes Dual Fusion different from previous expansions, and they’re exactly the kind of cards I’ll be watching closely as players begin experimenting with the new meta.

There are plenty of other cards worth chasing, too. Giratina ex looks like a serious contender, while cards such as Umbreon, Pawmot and Melmetal could provide valuable support for existing strategies.

We’ll take a closer look at these cards when discussing the new decks and the best ways to use them.

Now, can we take a moment to appreciate the artwork in Dual Fusion? Because the artists have really outdone themselves this time. There are so many cards I love in this expansion that choosing favorites wasn’t easy.

Even if you’re not particularly interested in the competitive side of the game, there’s plenty here to get excited about.

The Kanto starter trio gets some fantastic one-star cards, featuring Blastoise, Charizard and Venusaur. And yes, my boy Blastoise finally has something to brag about!
The artwork looks great, and it’s nice to see one of my favorite Pokémon getting some well-deserved attention.

Dialga and Palkia also get a beautiful pair of cards, while Mega Tyranitar, Mega Dragonite and Mega Skarmory are all worth a closer look. But if I had to pick a personal favorite, Mega Mewtwo X ex would be right up there.

This set gives Mewtwo two different full-art cards: a two-star version and a three-star immersive version.

The first has an evocative pose, with Mewtwo surrounded by flying debris, while the immersive artwork goes all-in on its intimidating presence.

Seriously, doesn’t it remind you of Vegeta getting ready for a Big Bang Attack? Maybe it’s just me, but I can absolutely see it.

As for the Crown Rare cards, we have Giratina ex, Fuecoco ex and Pawmot. I have to admit, these weren’t exactly the cards I expected to see at this rarity, but the selection works pretty well overall.

Giratina ex could become a major competitive threat, Pawmot is a useful option for Electric decks thanks to its Energy acceleration, and Fuecoco ex offers a new starting point for Fire-type strategies.

Of the three, Fuecoco is probably the one I’m least convinced by, although I’m happy to be proven wrong.

What New Decks Can You Try?

giratina ex

One of the best things about a new expansion is seeing which decks emerge from all the new cards. Dual Fusion gives us plenty of material to work with, from entirely new strategies built around Dual-Type Pokémon to support cards that could strengthen archetypes that already exist.

Let’s start with the new Dual-Type Pokémon. Mega Mewtwo X ex and Mega Greninja ex are obvious candidates for experimentation, but they’re not the only cards worth considering.

Giratina ex is another particularly promising addition, and I’m curious to see how far players can push its potential once the first builds start appearing.

Then we have the cards that can support a much wider range of strategies. Melmetal is a useful addition for Metal-type decks, while Umbreon looks like a great fit for Darkness decks that need a fast attacker.

Pawmot, meanwhile, offers valuable Energy acceleration for Electric-type strategies.

These are the kinds of cards I like to see in an expansion. They don’t necessarily need to create an entirely new archetype to matter; sometimes, giving an existing deck the missing piece it needed is enough to make it worth playing again.

And if you want to start experimenting right away, I’ve also put together a separate guide featuring the Dual Fusion deck lists. You can browse the builds, find a strategy that catches your eye and decide which one you want to try first.

Mega Mewtwo or Pikachu: Which Pack Should You Open?

mega mewtwo x

Choosing between the Mega Mewtwo X and Pikachu packs isn’t as straightforward as it might seem. Both contain competitive cards worth chasing, so there’s no obvious loser here.

The best choice really depends on which decks you want to build and which cards are missing from your collection.

The Mega Mewtwo X packs are home to Mega Mewtwo X ex, of course, alongside other valuable additions such as Umbreon, Mega Tyranitar and Giratina ex.

This is also where you’ll find the cards for the Vespiquen and Ribombee deck, making this pack worth considering if that strategy catches your eye.

The Pikachu packs have their own share of heavy hitters. Alongside Pikachu ex, you’ll find Mega Greninja ex, Fuecoco ex, Mega Skarmory and Mega Dragonite.

This pack also contains the pieces for the Rabbit Jumping deck, so there’s plenty to chase beyond its cover Pokémon.

If we’re talking about the cards that stand out most to me competitively, Mega Mewtwo X ex and Giratina ex are major reasons to consider the first pack, while Mega Greninja ex makes a compelling case for the second.

Both sides have some serious potential, and I wouldn’t call either pack a clear winner.

My advice? Choose the pack that best supports the strategy you want to build. If you’re still undecided, take a look at the complete Dual Fusion deck lists before spending your Hourglasses. You might discover that your next favorite deck depends on a card you hadn’t even considered.

And don’t worry too much about making the wrong choice. Both packs have valuable cards, so focus on the decks you want to play rather than trying to guess which pack will dominate the meta.
