Pokémon TCG Pocket Paradox Drive (B3a): All New Cards, Meta Impact, and Upcoming Events

Hola Everyone! It’s your boy Anketsu here, and welcome to a brand-new Pokémon TCG Pocket guide.

The next Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket expansion is almost here, and honestly… things are about to get prehistoric and futuristic at the same time.

The new Paradox Drive (B3a) expansion officially releases on May 27 at 6:00 p.m. PDT, bringing a brand-new wave of Ancient and Future Pokémon into the game. This looks like one of the most experimental sets we’ve seen so far in the Pokémon Pocket meta, introducing two entirely new archetypes with dedicated support cards, unique mechanics, and some potentially scary late-game combos.

At first glance, the new Pokémon themselves don’t necessarily look absurdly broken on raw stats alone. But once you combine them with the new Tools and Supporters? That’s where things start getting spicy.

Ancient Pokémon seem built around massive HP pools and long-term pressure, while Future Pokémon focus more on scaling damage, tempo plays, and tactical switching. In other words: tank vs efficiency. Classic Pokémon design philosophy… but Pocket-style.

Now grab a seat, relax, and enjoy the guide!

Main Cards Analysis

The trailer revealed several new Paradox Pokémon and support picks:

  • Koraidon ex (Ancient)
  • Miraidon ex (Future)
  • Farigiraf
  • Kingambit
  • Garganacl
  • Scream Tail (Ancient)
  • Raging Bolt (Ancient)
  • Flutter Mane ex (Ancient)
  • Iron Boulder (Future)
  • Iron Hands (Future)
  • Iron Bundle ex (Future)

And yes, some of these already look ready to shake up the current Pokémon Pocket meta.

What’s New in Paradox Drive

  1. Introduction of the new Ancient and Future Paradox Pokémon categories, each with dedicated support cards and unique playstyles.
  2. A major shift in the Pokémon Pocket meta focused on archetype synergy rather than raw individual card power.
  3. Brand-new mechanics based on Energy transfer, tempo plays, and powerful “first attack” effects that reward smart timing and strategy.

Pokémon Cards

Koraidon EX 🦖

Koraidon arrives as an Ancient Fighting-type powerhouse.

Koraidon ex
Fighting Pokémon | Basic | EX | HP 150

Ability — Legendary Drive
Once during your turn, when you put this Pokémon from your hand onto your Bench, you may switch it with your Active Pokémon. If you do, move all of your Energy in play to this Pokémon.

Attack — World Wrecker
3 Fighting Energy — 110 damage
Discard the top card of your deck.

Weakness: Psychic
Retreat Cost: 2

This card looks very strong in dedicated Fighting decks. The key is not rushing it onto the Bench immediately. You usually want to keep Koraidon ex in your hand until you already have multiple Energy in play, then instantly transfer everything onto it using Legendary Drive for a surprise swing.

The obvious synergy cards are:

  • Lucario from Space-Time Smackdown
  • Korrina
  • Arena of Antiquity

All of them help boost Fighting Pokémon damage output, turning Koraidon ex into a terrifying finisher.

And then there’s the real problem card…

Ancient Booster Energy Capsule gives Ancient Pokémon +40 HP.

That means Koraidon ex suddenly jumps from 150 HP to a ridiculous 190 HP. For Pocket standards, that’s a massive wall to break through.

If Ancient decks become consistent enough, this could easily become one of the best cards from the pokemon pocket new expansion.

Miraidon EX

Miraidon is basically the opposite philosophy of Koraidon.

Miraidon ex
Lightning Pokémon | Basic | EX | HP 140

Ability — Legendary Drive
Once during your turn, when you put this Pokémon from your hand onto your Bench, you may switch it with your Active Pokémon. If you do, move all of your Energy in play to this Pokémon.

Attack — Hadron Ray
20+ damage
This attack does 20 more damage for each Lightning Energy attached to this Pokémon.

Weakness: Fighting
Retreat Cost: 2

Miraidon ex feels much more combo-oriented and explosive.

The big idea here is stacking Lightning Energy as quickly as possible and then transferring everything onto Miraidon ex for a giant burst attack.

Some of the best partners already look obvious:

  • Oricorio for stalling and countering EX / Mega EX decks
  • Zeraora for immediate Lightning Energy generation
  • Electric Generator from Paldean Wonders

Zeraora is especially interesting because its Ability can generate Energy early, which Miraidon ex can later absorb through Legendary Drive.

And once you combine Miraidon with Future Booster Energy Capsule giving Future Pokémon +20 damage? Hadron Ray starts scaling surprisingly fast.

Future decks currently seem less bulky than Ancient builds, but probably much faster and more technical to pilot.

Trainer Cards

pokemon cards professor sada and turo

The new Trainer cards are honestly what make this set dangerous.

Ancient Booster Energy Capsule

Trainer | Pokémon Tool

The Ancient Pokémon this card is attached to gets +40 HP.

Simple card. Huge impact.

Pocket is a format where HP thresholds matter a lot, and giving already bulky Ancient Pokémon even more survivability could completely change prize race math.

Future Booster Energy Capsule

Trainer | Pokémon Tool

Attacks used by the Future Pokémon this card is attached to do +20 damage to your opponent’s Active Pokémon.

This is probably the scarier Tool offensively.

Future Pokémon don’t always have huge base damage, but adding a flat +20 modifier makes cards like Miraidon ex much more threatening.

Professor Sada

Trainer | Supporter

Attach 3 different types of Energy from your discard pile to your Ancient Pokémon in any way you like.

This card feels absolutely insane for setup consistency.

Ancient decks may end up playing slower early turns just to explode later with giant Energy recovery swings.

Professor Turo

Trainer | Supporter

Shuffle 1 of your Future Pokémon in play into your deck.

This is a deceptively tricky card.

Being able to recycle damaged Future Pokémon, reset “first attack” mechanics, or deny knockouts could create some really annoying tempo loops.

And speaking of “first attack” mechanics…

New Mechanics and Interesting Cards

One of the coolest things introduced in Paradox Drive is the idea of Pokémon gaining bonus effects during the first attack they use after entering play.

That mechanic opens the door for revenge-attacker style gameplay where you immediately punish opponents after one of your Pokémon gets KO’d.

Flutter Mane EX

Flutter Mane ex feels like a miniature version of Mega Gengar ex from Mega Shine.

Its first attack prevents the opponent from using Trainer cards, which can completely disrupt combo turns.

Even if the stats aren’t overwhelming, the tempo swing potential is massive.

Iron Bundle EX

Iron Bundle ex is basically the Future counterpart.

For 3 Energy it deals:

  • 60 damage normally
  • +20 damage and Paralysis if it’s the first attack after entering play

That makes it an incredible comeback card or revenge attacker.

The mechanic itself is genuinely interesting because it rewards smart sequencing instead of simply dropping the strongest attacker every turn.

Promo Series and Event

The expansion launch also comes with a huge amount of events throughout May and June to help players build collections faster.

There will be multiple opportunities to earn promo cards, accessories, emblems, and resources.

Upcoming Events

Late May to Early June

  • Battle in the Paradox Drive Emblem Event
  • Earn profile emblems
  • Complete missions for useful items

Early June

  • Community Week event
  • Trade and share cards
  • Earn trade hourglasses, accessories, and additional rewards

Mid to Late June

  • Ceruledge ex Drop Event
  • Earn B Series Vol. 9 promo packs
  • Wonder Pick event featuring Sableye and Floragato

Ceruledge EX (Promo B)

Ceruledge EX looks surprisingly annoying.

Psychic Pokémon | Stage 1 | EX | HP 150

Shimmering Slash
1 Psychic + 1 Colorless — 80 damage

Discard a random Energy attached to any Pokémon in play.

Energy disruption is always dangerous in Pocket, especially against slower setup decks.

Sableye (Promo B)

Sableye might secretly become one of the most interesting utility cards in the set.

Dark Pokémon | Basic | HP 60

Jeweled Gift
1 Colorless Energy

Take a random Energy from your Energy Zone and attach it to one of your Benched Pokémon.

It’s basically a mini universal Energy accelerator that can work in almost every deck type.

Not flashy, but potentially extremely useful.

Final Thoughts

the pokemon cards from paradox drive

Overall, Paradox Drive looks less like a pure power-creep expansion and more like a set built around synergy and archetypes.

The Ancient Pokémon seem designed to become giant HP monsters with strong recovery tools, while the Future Pokémon focus more on tactical aggression, scaling damage, and tempo mechanics.

Personally, the Pokémon themselves don’t look overwhelmingly broken on their own. The scary part is clearly the support package around them.

And honestly? That’s usually healthier for the game.

Now the real question is:

  • Which archetype will end up stronger?
  • Ancient tanks or Future tempo decks?
  • Will Miraidon ex become the next big competitive threat?
  • Or will Koraidon ex simply refuse to die at 190 HP?

I’m also curious what everyone thinks about the speed of new releases lately. Pokémon Pocket has been dropping expansions incredibly fast — almost one every month.

Do you like having constant new content and a rapidly changing pokemon pocket meta, or would you prefer longer gaps between expansions so players have more time to experiment?
