Today we’re talking about one of the most aggressive Ancient Pokémon released in Paradox Drive: Koraidon EX.
Most VGC players already know this legendary Fighting/Dragon Pokémon as the mascot of Pokémon Scarlet and the Ancient counterparty of Miraidon.

This Koraidon EX deck is focused on the different ways you can build around Legendary Drive, huge Fighting-type damage boosts, and one-shot potential against some of the strongest Pokémon in the current meta.

Koraidon EX is not the kind of deck that slowly controls the game. The idea is simple: survive the early turns, build up your setup, then start swinging for massive damage.

Pokémon Cards

Koraidon EX 🦖

Koraidon EX is an Ancient Basic Pokémon with 150 HP and one of the most explosive abilities in Pokémon TCG Pocket right now.

Its Ability, Legendary Drive, activates when you place Koraidon EX from your hand onto the Bench. You can switch it with your Active Pokémon and move all of your Energy in play onto it. This effect is what makes the card so dangerous because it allows Koraidon EX to suddenly enter the field fully powered and ready to attack.

World Wrecker costs 3 Fighting Energy and deals 110 damage while also discarding the top card of your deck. On paper, 110 damage alone is solid but not incredible. The real power comes from all the Fighting-type support available in Pulsing Aura.

Lucario increases your Fighting Pokémon damage by +20. If you have two Lucario in play, that becomes +40.
Korrina gives another +30 damage against EX Pokémon, while Arena of Antiquity adds +20 against opposing EX Pokémon.

That means Koraidon EX can jump from 110 damage all the way up to 200 damage, which is enough to one-shot a huge part of the current meta, even bulky threats like Suicune EX, Iron Valiant, Terapagos ex and Hydreigon can disappear in a single hit.

Koraidon EX is an aggressive Pokémon, but during the first turns I usually want to keep it safe on the Bench or in Hand. It cannot attack until it reaches 3 Energy, so exposing it too early can be very risky against fast openings.

Its 150 HP is decent, but Ancient Booster Energy Capsule changes everything. The extra +40 HP pushes Koraidon EX to 190 HP, which is massive for a Basic Pokémon and makes it surprisingly difficult to knock out, even for angry monsters like Mega Rayquaza ex and Mega Metagross ex.

The deck does struggle against extremely fast archetypes like Mega Blaziken EX that can pressure you before you complete your setup. Psychic decks like Mega Gardevoir EX and Mega Altaria EX can also create difficult matchups because of Koraidon EX’s weakness.

Support Pokémon 🥊

The Support Pokémon listed below are not mandatory inclusions for every build. They are simply different options that can be mixed, swapped, or adjusted depending on your preferred strategy, playstyle, and the cards you currently have available.

Great Tusk & Furfrou

This version of the deck fully embraces the power of Ancient Pokémon. Great Tusk becomes your main early attacker, dealing 80 damage for just two Energy, at the cost of placing 20 damage on each of your Benched Pokémon.

In practice, this drawback is almost irrelevant. Koraidon ex usually stays on the Bench until it has enough Energy to attack, then uses its Ability to move directly into the Active Spot without being affected by Great Tusk’s self-damage.

Furfrou is the perfect partner thanks to its Ability, which prevents the damage Great Tusk would normally place on it, making it an excellent secondary tank and attacker. There are several Furfrou versions available, but the Crimson Blaze and Everyday Wonders prints are generally the preferred choices.

Mega Lucario Hitmontop

The Mega Lucario ex variant gives Koraidon ex even more offensive pressure thanks to one of the strongest cards in the current meta.

Running one or two copies of Mega Lucario ex adds a powerful secondary attacker capable of dealing heavy damage once extra Fighting Energy is attached.

Hitmontop also improves the deck’s early game by applying pressure to both the Active Pokémon and the Bench at the same time.
Its spread damage is especially useful against Baby Pokémon and low-HP Basic Pokémon, helping you secure easier knockouts while setting up your main attackers.

Palossand

The Palossand version revolves around the Palossand + Acerola combo. Instead of treating Great Tusk’s self-inflicted Bench damage as a drawback, this build converts it into extra pressure by moving those damage counters onto your opponent’s Pokémon.

Compared to the Furfrou variant, this build is more aggressive and can create stronger swing turns, but it is also less consistent since Palossand is a Stage 1 Pokémon that requires additional setup.

This version also includes Rainbow Cave, which helps discard Fighting Energy from your hand, making it easier to maximize Professor Sada’s Vitality later in the game.

Trainer Cards

Just like the Pokémon section, these Trainer cards are not all meant to be played together. They are simply useful options that can work inside different versions of the deck.

Supporter cards:

Professor Sada is one of the strongest support cards for Ancient Pokémon decks, in this build we play a single Energy type but she can still be used to speed up the Koraidon setup.

Copycat can bail you out of awkward hands by shuffling it into the deck and drawing cards equal to your opponent’s hand size (i usually like to play 2 copy of this card in all my decks).

Cyrus is useful for dragging damaged Benched Pokémon into the Active Spot and finishing them off.

Sabrina can disrupt the opponent’s board by forcing them to switch their Active Pokémon.

Mars is annoying to play against because it reduces the opponent’s hand size based on their remaining points needed to win.

Professor’s Research is simple but always useful for drawing extra cards and improving consistency.

Stadium cards:

Arena of Antiquity is easily the strongest Stadium for the deck because of the extra damage against EX Pokémon.

If you prefer a more stable build, you can also consider Mesagoza or Hiking Trail to improve your draws and help find cards from the deck more consistently.

Rainbow Cave makes it much easier to activate Professor Sada’s Vitality.
By discarding Fighting Energy throughout the game, you can quickly reach the three Energy needed in the discard pile, ensuring Sada is almost always live when you need it.

This creates a smoother Energy engine and helps Koraidon ex keep up its aggressive pace.

Tool cards:

Ancient Booster Energy Capsule is easily the best Tool for Koraidon EX. The +40 HP boost is huge and turns it into a massive wall.

You can also play Rocky Helmet if you want more passive damage pressure against aggressive opponents.

Giant Cape is another option. It is weaker than Ancient Booster Energy Capsule, but it can also be attached to Bonsly and your other Pokémon.

Item cards:

Poké Ball and Pokémon Communication help thin the deck and find the Pokémon you need.

Lucky Ice Pop is surprisingly useful for healing Koraidon EX over time. Recovering 20 HP can matter a lot in longer games, and if the coin flip lands heads, the card returns to your hand and can be reused again later.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Koraidon EX is one of the most interesting Ancient Pokémon released in Paradox Drive. It starts a little slowly, but once the setup is complete, the damage output becomes absolutely ridiculous.

I also really like how flexible the deck can be. You can focus more on pure Fighting support with Lucario, or you can slow the game down with the Igglybuff and Darkrai package depending on the version you prefer.
