Milotic ex 🧜🏻‍♀️

Milotic ex is the heart of the deck and, in my opinion, one of the strongest cards Pokémon TCG Pocket has ever seen. Seriously, I’m not even exaggerating. This single card combines several of the most powerful mechanics we’ve seen so far into one incredibly efficient package.

First, it can evolve directly from your deck thanks to Wallace, its dedicated Supporter card. That alone makes the deck remarkably consistent, letting you skip the usual waiting game that Stage 1 Pokémon often suffer from.

Then there’s Aqua Charge, an Ability that lets Milotic ex attach a Water Energy from your Energy Zone to itself once during your turn. It’s very similar to what Magneton from Genetic Apex and Giratina ex can do, except Milotic doesn’t immediately end your turn, making the Ability even more explosive.

At first glance, requiring three Water Energy to attack might seem slow in a fast-paced meta dominated by decks like Suicune ex, Mega Lucario ex, and Mega Altaria ex. In reality, Milotic ex completely ignores that drawback because it ramps its own Energy so efficiently.

Even when going first, you can pull off some absurd openings. Imagine this sequence: you play Feebas, immediately use Wallace to evolve into Milotic ex directly from your deck, activate Aqua Charge for your first extra Energy, and by your second turn Milotic ex is already fully powered and ready to attack.

That means you’re swinging for 80 damage while putting the opponent’s Active Pokémon to Sleep before many decks have even finished setting up. That’s absolutely insane.

This aggressive game plan allows Milotic ex to punch holes through opposing defenses from the very beginning of the match. If your opponent doesn’t immediately find an answer, the game can spiral out of control extremely quickly. Sleep not only slows their tempo but also creates opportunities to take favorable Prize trades while your opponent struggles to respond.

Because of that, Milotic ex performs exceptionally well against much of the current competitive meta, especially other aggressive strategies like Mega Blaziken ex and Mega Scizor ex, where attacking first often determines the outcome of the game.

Another huge strength of Milotic ex is that it doesn’t have to be your main attacker. Aqua Charge turns it into an incredible Energy engine capable of powering up heavier Water Pokémon such as Chien-Pao ex, Mega Gyarados ex, and Palkia ex, making it one of the most flexible support attackers currently available.

Of course, no deck is perfect. Milotic ex can struggle against Mega Sceptile ex variants running Ogerpon ex, since they can prevent the Sleep condition that makes Water Pulse so oppressive. Fast Lightning decks like Mega Manectric ex and Miraidon ex are also difficult matchups because they can pressure Feebas before it evolves, while cards like Oricorio remain excellent answers to powerful Pokémon ex throughout the game.

I’ve personally tested this deck extensively and… I honestly don’t know what to tell you guys. Milotic ex is here to stay, the meta is going to be an absolute nightmare, and this Pokémon is going to dominate everything.

The Support Pokémon listed below are not mandatory inclusions for every build. They are simply different options that can be mixed, swapped, or adjusted depending on your preferred strategy, playstyle, and the cards you currently have available.

One of the biggest reasons Milotic ex is so exciting is its incredible flexibility. There isn’t just one “correct” build instead, there are dozens of different partners that completely change how the deck plays.

Greninja is one of the strongest support options if you want to maximize offensive pressure. Its extra 20 or 40 damage every turn combines perfectly with Milotic ex’s 80 damage, allowing you to reach key knockout thresholds while still applying Sleep to slow your opponent down.

Suicune ex gives the deck additional draw power while acting as a durable early-game tank, buying valuable turns until Milotic ex is fully online.

Chien-Pao ex fills another important role by sniping vulnerable Pokémon sitting on your opponent’s Bench, helping you pick off evolving Basics before they become threats.

If you prefer a slower, heavier strategy, Milotic ex can become an Energy engine for powerful attackers like Mega Gyarados ex, Mega Slowbro ex, Mega Blastoise ex, Palkia ex, or Mega Swampert ex. In these versions, Milotic shifts from being your primary attacker to your main support Pokémon, continuously generating Water Energy to fuel your late-game threats.

If you choose one of these heavier builds that require three or more Energy to attack, cards like Mantyke and Baxcalibur are also worth considering to accelerate your setup even further.

Another interesting option is pairing Milotic ex with the classic Igglybuff + Darkrai Sleep package. Since Milotic already spreads Sleep through Water Pulse, this combination allows you to fully commit to a disruptive strategy that constantly limits your opponent’s ability to play the game.

Milotic ex can even support Colorless decks. Pokémon like Mega Kangaskhan ex appreciate the extra Energy acceleration despite not being Water-types, giving you another completely different way to build around Aqua Charge.

As you can see, Milotic ex is an incredibly versatile card. These are only a handful of possible versions you can realistically play it in almost any Water deck currently available.

Even more impressively, because it generates its own Water Energy, you can often splash it into decks that primarily use completely different Energy types. For newer players, “splashable” is a common TCG term that describes a card that’s easy to include in many different decks because its effect is so universally useful.

Personally, I think it’s absolutely crazy that one card can fit into so many different strategies while making nearly all of them better.

Booster Packs:

Best Support Partners

  • Greninja, Suicune ex: The best utility core, combining extra damage, draw power, and early-game consistency.
  • Chien-Pao ex, Mega Gyarados ex, Palkia ex: The strongest offensive partners, taking full advantage of Milotic ex’s Energy acceleration to overwhelm opponents with raw power.
  • Darkrai + Igglybuff: The best control option, doubling down on Sleep to constantly disrupt your opponent and slow their game plan.

Trainer Cards

Wallace

Just like the Pokémon section, these Trainer cards are not all meant to be played together. They are simply useful options that can work inside different versions of the deck.

Most of the Trainer lineup consists of staples, meaning cards that are so generically powerful they’re played in almost every competitive deck regardless of strategy.

Cards like Copycat, Poké Ball, and Professor’s Research provide the consistency every deck needs by improving your draw power and helping you find key pieces as quickly as possible.

Cyrus and Sabrina remain some of the best disruption options in the game, allowing you to manipulate your opponent’s Active Pokémon and create favorable knockouts.

Pokémon Center Lady offers valuable healing while also removing annoying Special Conditions such as Poison, Burn, and even Sleep, making her useful in many different matchups.

The one Trainer that should never leave a Milotic ex deck, however, is Wallace. This Supporter allows you to evolve a Basic Pokémon with 50 HP or less directly from your deck, completely bypassing the normal setup process. Right now, Milotic ex is by far the biggest winner from this effect, but Wallace also works extremely well with Gyarados and its various forms, including Gyarados ex and Mega Gyarados ex, as well as Starmie ex. Horsea can technically benefit too on the path toward Kingdra ex, although it’s noticeably less effective since Kingdra still requires evolving through Seadra first.

If you’re playing one of the slower builds where Milotic ex serves as an Energy engine for Pokémon like Palkia ex, Mega Gyarados ex, Mega Slowbro ex, Mega Kangaskhan ex, or Mega Swampert ex, Elemental Switch becomes an excellent inclusion by letting you transfer Energy where it’s needed most.

For Pokémon Tools, Elegant Cape and Giant Cape are both fantastic choices for increasing your Pokémon’s HP and improving their survivability.

Inflatable Boat is another fun option for Water-focused lists, reducing the Retreat Cost of your Water Pokémon and making board positioning much easier.

Finally, Starting Plains is one of the better Stadium choices for versions running more Basic Pokémon like Suicune ex and Chien-Pao ex, giving them additional HP to survive important damage thresholds.

Booster Packs:

Milotic ex Strengths

  • Fast setup: Evolves quickly with Wallace and accelerates its own Energy.
  • Strong disruption: Applies Sleep while dealing consistent damage.
  • Highly versatile: Works as both a main attacker and an Energy engine.

Milotic ex Weaknesses

  • Weak to Lightning decks: Fast Electric Pokémon can punish its setup.
  • Sleep has counterplay: Some decks can ignore or remove the Sleep effect.
  • Setup dependent: Losing early momentum greatly reduces its pressure.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Milotic ex wins by doing everything faster than the opponent: evolving immediately, accelerating its own Energy, attacking early, and using Sleep to completely disrupt the opposing game plan before they can stabilize.

Now I’m really curious what you all think. How are you building Milotic ex? Are you sticking with the aggressive version, experimenting with heavier Water attackers, or trying something completely unexpected? And what about Sleep, do you think this mechanic makes the meta healthier and more diverse, or is it simply too much power creep?
