Pokémon Cards

Mega Mewtwo ex
Mega Mewtwo X ex is a Dual-Type Pokémon with both Psychic and Fighting types, available in the Mewtwo packs from the Dual Fusion expansion.
It’s a Basic Pokémon with 180 HP and a single attack that requires two Psychic Energy and one Colorless Energy.
Its base damage is 100, with an additional 40 damage if there’s a Stadium in play. It also has a Retreat Cost of 2 and is weak to Darkness-type Pokémon.
What makes Dual-Type Pokémon so powerful is their ability to deal additional damage against twice as many Pokémon compared to regular Pokémon.
In Mega Mewtwo X ex’s case, this means it can hit both Psychic- and Fighting-weak Pokémon for increased damage, while only having a single weakness itself: Darkness.
But the real strength of Dual-Type Pokémon, and arguably their greatest advantage, is their ability to benefit from the support cards of both types they belong to.
This means Mega Mewtwo X ex can take advantage of Fighting-type support, such as Space-Time Smackdown Lucario’s damage-boosting Ability, as well as Trainer cards like Arena of Antiquity and Korrina. At the same time, it can benefit from Psychic-type support cards such as Peculiar Plaza.
This completely changes the way we play Pokémon TCG Pocket and, by itself, is enough to make this new type of card a must-have for any deck that can afford to run them.
How to Play Mega Mewtwo X ex
Mega Mewtwo X ex is clearly designed to work alongside Stadium cards. As mentioned above, its Dual-Type classification allows us to use both Peculiar Plaza and Arena of Antiquity, two of the most useful and effective Stadium cards currently available in the game.
The strategy is quite straightforward: we want to get the most out of its 140-damage attack, while taking advantage of additional boosts from cards like Korrina and Arena of Antiquity to hit opposing Pokémon ex and Mega ex as hard as possible.
These are also the kinds of decks Mega Mewtwo X ex performs best against, including Miraidon ex, Mega Rayquaza ex, and Mega Sableye ex.
What we want to avoid, however, is bringing Mega Mewtwo X ex into the Active Spot too early, before completing its three-Energy setup.
There are several support Pokémon that can help speed up this process, and we’ll take a closer look at them later.
As a general rule, the best approach is to keep Mega Mewtwo X ex safely on the Bench during the first two or three turns and only bring it into the Active Spot once it has all three Energy attached and a Stadium is already in play.
Best Pokémon to Pair with Mega Mewtwo X ex

There are plenty of interesting Pokémon you can pair with Mega Mewtwo X ex, and here I’d like to share some of the options worth considering. I’ll try to highlight what makes each of them a good addition to the deck, but ultimately, it’s up to you to decide which playstyle suits you best.
Best Pokémon Partners at a Glance
- Flutter Mane – Secondary attacker and support
- Comfey & Meloetta – Utility and consistency
- Indeedee ex & Giratina ex – Healing and damage
Mew ex
It’s no coincidence that Mew ex from Dual Fusion was released in the same expansion as Mega Mewtwo X ex. Its first attack costs just one Psychic Energy and lets you flip three coins, attaching one Psychic Energy to one of your Benched Psychic Pokémon for each heads.
This makes Mew ex an excellent Energy accelerator for Mega Mewtwo X ex. If you’re going second and manage to flip two heads with Mew ex, you can already bring Mega Mewtwo X ex into the Active Spot on your next turn!
Flutter Mane (Regular and ex)
Both versions of Flutter Mane offer something different to the deck.
The regular version from Everyday Wonders is an excellent revenge attacker. It can come into play after your Active Pokémon has been Knocked Out and strike back with a devastating 90 damage. It’s particularly useful against Oricorio.
The ex version from Paradox Drive, on the other hand, is perfect for slowing your opponent down by preventing them from immediately using their Trainer cards. This can buy you some valuable time to complete Mega Mewtwo X ex’s setup.
Comfey
Comfey is another excellent support option, and honestly, it’s one of the best cards for Psychic-type decks looking to protect themselves from Special Conditions such as Sleep, Burn, Poison, and so on.
Meloetta
Meloetta is an excellent draw support Pokémon for Psychic-type decks, helping you draw through your deck and find the cards you need.
And remember, since Mega Mewtwo X ex is also a Psychic-type Pokémon, Meloetta can bring it into the equation as well, adding even more consistency to your combo.
Indeedee ex & Giratina ex
I’ll treat these two cards as a single combination because we’re already used to seeing them played together.
Indeedee ex provides healing support from the Bench, while Giratina ex tanks in the Active Spot. Giratina ex is one of the strongest and most widely played cards in Pokémon TCG Pocket’s history.
It dominated the meta for many months, and even today, thanks to its Ability that allows it to generate its own Energy, it remains an excellent support option for decks that need a Pokémon that doesn’t interfere with their Energy setup.
Trainer Cards

Over time, Items, Supporters, Pokémon Tools, and Stadiums have become the beating heart of almost every deck in the game. Their increasingly powerful effects help define a deck’s goals and make its combos more effective.
When it comes to Mega Mewtwo X ex, we have plenty of options to choose from. The cards you’ll almost always want to include are the usual staples: Professor’s Research, Poké Ball, Copycat, and Cyrus.
To get the most out of Mega Mewtwo X ex, however, you’ll also need to run at least two or three Stadiums. The best choices are Arena of Antiquity and Peculiar Plaza, both of which work particularly well with this deck.
There are several other cards worth considering, too. Field Blower is an excellent option for countering your opponent’s Stadiums and Pokémon Tools, while Lucky Ice Pop, Pokémon Center Lady, and Super Potion are all great healing options to choose from.
Eviolite deserves a special mention. This new Pokémon Tool is fantastic in decks that run plenty of Basic Pokémon. If you have the chance to play it, do it!
This card is seriously powerful, and I expect we’ll be seeing a lot more of it in the competitive meta. Trust your Anketsu on this one!
Finally, Korrina, Mars, Budding Expeditioner, and Serena’s Choice are all excellent all-around Supporters that can help improve your deck’s consistency.
DeckList
Mega Mewtwo X ex Deck – Mew Flutter Mane

One of the most popular builds, this is the most consistent version of the deck and a solid choice for tackling the entire meta.
Mega Mewtwo X ex Deck – Mew Meloetta

Looking for a build that can reliably get Mega Mewtwo X into play? Meloetta is the card you’re looking for.
Mega Mewtwo X ex Deck – Giratina Indeedee

The most aggressive version, built around Giratina ex. Mega Mewtwo X ex acts as the finisher, but this deck can win without it, too.
Mega Mewtwo X ex Strengths & Weaknesses

Mega Mewtwo X ex is a devastating card, and its release will undoubtedly leave its mark on the competitive meta. One of the deck’s greatest strengths is its incredible versatility, allowing it to adapt to almost anything the current meta can throw at it.
Its weaknesses, however, are just as clear. Being a Mega Pokémon means that if Mega Mewtwo X ex gets Knocked Out, you lose the game.
On top of that, without the right boosts and support, its performance is fairly average.
Its damage output is relatively low over time, and without a dedicated setup, the deck can end up underperforming quite badly.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Mega Mewtwo X ex is certainly one of the most powerful cards to come out of Dual Fusion, but what do you think about it?
Do you believe Dual-Type Pokémon will bring something good to the meta, or will they make an already unbalanced game even more difficult to keep in check?
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
